Mary Smith

Mrs. Mary Eualia Greene "Nanny" Smith, age 90, of Burlington, passed away on Friday, November 13, 2015 at her son's home after a sudden illness. Born in Charlotte County, VA, she was the daughter of the late Franklin Henry Greene and the late Rosa Alice Dickerson Greene and was married for over 40 years to the late Edwin Ramey Smith, Sr. before his death in 1990. Mary was a registered nurse but spent most of her life as a homemaker for her family. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Burlington, where she was a member of the Lydia Sunday School Class and a volunteer with the church office for many years. Mrs. Smith is survived by her three sons, Edwin Ramey Smith, Jr. and his wife, Barbara, Haley Alford Smith and his wife, Ellen, and Kenneth Lee Smith and his wife, Nancy, all of Burlington; eight grandchildren, Candy Richard Phillips, Johnny Smith, Tripp Kelli Smith, Jamie Crystal Smith, Kristy Danny Riley, Kathryn Shaggy Williams, Jennifer Smith and Ethan Smith; thirteen great grandchildren; two brothers, Thomas L. Greene of Clarksville, VA and James Franklin Greene of Phenix, VA; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and a sister, Elizabeth Camelia Adams. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Dale Steele and Dr. Terry Peele. Interment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 8 PM Monday evening at the funeral home.
