Mary Elizabeth Maynard, 91, a devoted matriarch and a faithful servant of God, passed from this life and leaped into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on January 2, 2025. She is no longer bound by a wheelchair, pain or sorrow. She was a devoted mother of 5 and loved her children fervently. Mary leaves behind a legacy of faith, love and cherished memories to her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and all who knew her. She had a heart of ministry and shared her faith openly. Her favorite story she recounted was the time she was so mad at the devil and said I just want to hurt him and kill him. She heard the Lord say “to defeat satan get everyone saved you can”. That was her mission.
Mary's life was a beautiful melody composed of her faith, family, and an enduring passion for the Word of God. She was a charter member of Graham Church of God. She taught Sunday School for more than 50 years. She had a way of inspiring hope to those that had lost their way and they were drawn to her. In her later years she attended Triad Fellowship with her daughter.
She is survived by her son, Glennis Maynard, and her four daughters: Melinda Kay Haney and her husband Johnny, Elaine Smith and her husband Randy, Kathy Chance and her husband Danny, Penney Coley and her husband Ray. Mary’s love extended to her cherished 16 grandchildren, Melissa (Shawn) Franklin, David Walker, Philip Wagoner, Jennifer (Jacob) Redell, Holly (Matt) Strout, Laura (Todd) Gilmore, Jon Maynard, Eckland Maynard, Austin Maynard, Kara (Robb) Phillip, Brie Smith (Seth Spencer), Josie Darcy, Abigail Smith, Marie (Chris) Hamilton, Jeremy (Amanda) Shearon, Tony (Tara) Shearon; 29 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren with 2 more on the way who adored her deeply. The joy and pride she took in her family were evident in every gathering, as she celebrated their milestones and offered her unwavering support with a loving heart. She is preceded in death by her husband, Henry Franklin Maynard, her father, and mother, Andrew and Nealie Maynor; her seven sisters and three brothers. We can only imagine the reunion. Mary’s influence remains alive in the hearts of those she loved. As her family gathers to honor her memory, they will reflect on the radiant light she brought into their lives and the faith that guided her every step. The visitation for Mary will be held on January 8, 2025, from 10:30 AM to 11:45 AM at Triad Fellowship Church in Gibsonville, NC, followed by a funeral service starting at 12:00 PM. She will then be interred at Alamance Memorial Park in Burlington, NC, at 1:00 PM. Online condolences may be made at www.lowefuneralhome.com.
