Mary LaPlaca

Mary L. LaPlaca, 87, of Westtown, N.Y. died Friday, March 24, 2006, peacefully surrounded by her family at her residence. Mary was born in New York, N.Y. on April 22, 1918, the daughter of Frank and Teresa Lodato Carbone. She was the widow of Joseph A. LaPlaca. Mary was a graduate of the New York School for the deaf. Everyone knew Mary fell in love with her. She was always radiant with a smile that expressed her love for life and for her family and friends. Her deafness never disabled her from communicating with everyone she came in contact with. She loved her Yankees, her soaps, and oddly enough, American Idol. She loved baking bread, cookies and cake, with a need to share with everyone. She put others before herself, that even in her last days she was worried about how others were doing. Her most favorite time of the year was Christmas, and she loved to spend it with her family. We were blessed to have her as a mother, grandmother and friend. Everyone will sorly miss her presence and smile. She is survived by her two daughters, RoseAnn and her husband, Tom Bonanno, of Graham; and Carol and her husband, Frank "Chicky" LaPenna, of Westtown; her granddaughter, Darlene and her husband, Craig Malkani, of Durham; grandson, Lonnie Bonanno and his wife, Amy, and their children, Mario and Olivia, of Burlington; grandson, Joseph LaPenna, and his wife, Nadine, and their children, Katelyn and Matthew LaPenna of Travelers Rest, S.C.; her sister, Rose Barrise of Newton, N. J.; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, April 1, at 1:00 p.m. at Alamance Memorial Park with her grandsons Lonnie Bonanno and Joseph LaPenna officiating. A funeral procession will leave at 12:30 from Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory to the graveside. Condolences may be sent to the family at info@lowefuneralhome.com
