Mary Ellen Hamlett Mays Kraushaar, 72, formerly of Burlington, passed away on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at the Brian Center in Concord. She was born in Pittsylvania County, VA to the late David Allen and Geneva Hazel Hundley Hamlett and was married to Walter William Kraushaar, who survives. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church where she served as Sunday school teacher, choir member, G.A. leader and worked with campers on missions. Mrs. Kraushaar was also a writer, Cub Scout coach and Den leader. She worked as a nurse at Alamance Memorial Hospital and was a charter member of the Mebane Lions Club. She is survived by her husband, Walter William Kraushaar of the home; sons, Edward "Bud" Mays, Jr. of Burlington, Roger Lee Mays, Sr. of New London; 8 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; sister, Claudia Virginia "Pennie" Holderfield of Graham; brothers, Raymond Lindsey Hamlett of Ossipee, Walter Fleming Hamlett of Liberty and a half-brother, David Hamlett of Tampa, FL. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Edward Harrison Mays, Sr., son, David Paul Mays, Sr., parents and brothers, Garnett Wesley Hamlett and Roger Lee Hamlett. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday at Fellowship Baptist Church with interment to follow in Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 PM prior to the service at the church.
