Mrs. Mary Hartness Kandounas, age 91, of 3306 S. Mebane St., passed away Monday, December 21, 2009 at Alamance Regional Medical Center. A native of Forsyth County, she was the wife of the late George Kandounas and daughter of the late Harry and Martha Spoolman Hartness. She was a member of Front Street United Methodist Church. For a number of years, she and her husband George operated the Busy Bee Caf. Survivors include her daughters, Maria Fincher wife of the late Bill Fincher, of Burlington, and son-in-law Jimmy Turner of Burlington and Linda Humphries and husband Phil of Cramerton; grandchildren, Candy Fincher, Lynne Scott, Tammy Powell, Ricky Turner, Rusty Turner, Tom Humphries and Jodie Cogdell; great grandchildren; Brittany Crumpler, Jordan Carden, Kayleigh Scott, Caroline Powell, Kristen Powell, Noah Turner, Austin Turner, Nicholas Turner, Jacob Turner, Chip Cogdell, Abbey Cogdell and Alana Cogdell and special friend and caregiver, Pamela Tarr. Mrs. Kandounas was preceded in death by a daughter, Alex Turner. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 pm Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Marshall Old and Rev. Stephen Hall. Interment will follow in Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory from 6-8 pm Tuesday evening and at other times at the home of Maria Fincher, 3302 S. Mebane St., Burlington.
