Burlington – Mary Jane Smith Pettigrew, 89, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at the Hospice Home surrounded by her family. A native of Alamance County, she was born May 17, 1930 to the late Terry Mack and Nettie Jane Lea Smith and was the wife of the late Herbert “Buck” Vance Pettigrew.
Mary Jane was a longtime member of First Christian United Church of Christ where she sang in the choir. She was also a member of the North State Boating Club and worked for Glen Raven Mills, Kayser-Roth and most recently, Alamance Antique Mall. She enjoyed traveling, time at the lake and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn Pettigrew; brothers, Ross Smith, Luther Smith and wife Brenda and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents; brothers, Allen Smith, J.C. Smith, Dan Smith, Pete Smith, Mack Smith Ross and sisters, Margaret Todd and Betsy Albright.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, June 7, 2019 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Jamie Fonville with the burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:45 prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at her home.
