Mary Dew

Mary Ruth Mitchell Dew, age 94, passed away on Wednesday, January 16, 2008. Mrs. Dew was affectionately known as Mama Dew to hundreds of children who were students at Teddy Bear Nursery and Kindergarten which she owned and directed for 30 years on Holt St. in Burlington. She was a charter member of First Church of the Nazarene where she was active until her retirement. Upon her retirement, she moved to Nashville, TN where she was a resident of Trevecca Towers for 13 years. For the last 9 years, she was a resident of Peachtree Medical Center. She is survived by her son, Macon J. Dew, Jr., CPA and wife Paula; daughter, Dr. Mary Frances Hand and husband David; 5 grandchildren, Rachael Reather, Bobby Dew, Kerry and Kevin Hand and Katie Barnes and 8 great grandchilden. Mrs. Dew will remain at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory through the funeral service. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Sunday, January 20 at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Bill Vinson. Interment will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3:00 until 3:45 Sunday, prior to the service.
