Mary Burrell

Mary Lou Forrester Burrell, 97, passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Liberty Commons surrounded by her family. She was born on October 19, 1919 in Greenville County, SC to the late William Thomas Forrester and Mary Lula Crain Forrester and was the wife to the late James Alton Burrell, Sr. who died in 2001.

Mary Lou was a retired school teacher with the Alamance County School System. She had taught with the Spartanburg County School System before coming to Alamance County. Mary Lou was a member of the N.C. Education Association and First Baptist Church of Elon.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James "Jim" and Judy Burrell; a daughter, Alice Burrell Isley; grandchildren, Michael Burrell and wife, Melissa, Kenny Isley and Kamila Liburd, Angela Moore and husband, Chris and Aaron Carter; great grandchildren, Mason Carter, Colin Carter, Haley Moore, Breckin Carter, Carter Moore, Emma Burrell, Jenaya Isley, Christopher Isley, Sean Isley and Shylah Smith; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sisters, Lois Pressley, Thelma Barnett, Lillian Inabinet and Wilma Keller; brothers, Gary, Rev. Grady, Carlisle, T.J., and Donald Forrester.

The funeral service will be held 2:00pm Sunday, October 30, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Elon by Dr. Mason Smith and Dr. David Durham with entombment to follow at Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 - 1:45pm at the church prior to the service and other times at the sons' home.
