Marvin Parrish Self, 84, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 4, 2019 at the Hospice Home surrounded by his family. He was born in Person County to the late Roy and Mae Bivens Self and was married for 61 years to Hazel Thompson Self who survives. He was a member of Glen Hope Baptist Church and the Guiding Light Sunday school class. Marvin worked for Cone Mill and was a U.S. Army veteran. He enjoyed outdoor activities and was sometimes called Mr. Fix-it because he loved fixing things for others. He was a loving and devoted husband and father.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel; sisters, Faye Tate (Lacy), Betty Harrell (Ben), Shirley Bailey (Verlin), Thelma O’Brien, Edna Barley and several other extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Timothy Marvin Self; brother, Lester Self, parents and sisters, Ruby Lunsford, Dorothy Cash and Brenda Carswell.
The funeral will be held 11:00 AM Friday, November 8, 2019 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Bob Stephenson and Rev. Clarence Toney with interment to follow in Alamance Memorial Park by Rev. Lewis Baber. The family will receive friends from 9:45-10:45 prior to the service at the funeral home.
