Burlington, NC Marvin Brooks McKinney, age 84, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 24, 2009. A native of Alamance County, he was born on March 11, 1925 to the late Pierson Brooks and Iona Frances Kimbro McKinney. He was the husband of 59 years to Janie Hall McKinney who survives. Marvin was employed as an auto mechanic for over thirty years with Sox Esso Station, and later worked as a technician for Southern Pride where he retired after ten years. He was also a proud employee of McPherson Hardware in Burlington where he served as a clerk. Marvin was a US Army veteran serving in Hawaii during WWII. A long time member of the Burlington Assembly of God, Marvin was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He touched many lives and was loved by all who met him. Survivors include his wife of the home, a daughter, Kathy Beal and husband Jimmy of Elon; a special son, Roger McKinney and wife Fonda of Burlington; grandchildren, Joshua M. Ball, Jonathan B. Ball, and Robin Gregory and husband Dennis; a special granddaughter, Cilicia Graves; great grandchildren, Alex and Morgan Gregory; a brother Charles McKinney of Burlington; and sisters, Hattie Marshall and Dorothy Beal, both of Burlington. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Lillian Ross, Erma Ward, Mildred McNeil, Louise Thomas, and Elva Klinger. The funeral service will be held on Monday, December 28, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Burlington Assembly of God by Pastor Howard Thompson and Rev. Paul Scott. The burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by the US Army. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and at other times at the home.
