MARVIN H. COMER Mr. Marvin Henry Comer, age 95, of 1933 Shirley Dr. passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at Alamance Regional Medical Center. A native of Yadkin County, he was the husband of the late Aura Brown Comer and son of the late Nathaniel Webster and Sarah Todd Comer. He was a lifelong member of Deep Creek Baptist Church in Yadkinville. Marvin was employed by Burlington Industries for 20 years where at the age of 36, he was the youngest superintendent of plant management in company history. For the next 20 years, Mr. Comer traveled worldwide setting up plants for Kayser Roth Co. He was a former Chairman of The Burlington Recreation Commission, President of the Burlington Lions Club and Lion of the Year in 1965, the first Honorary Chairman of the Hospice Celebrity Golf Tournament and was instrumental in founding the Hospice Home, former Board of the YMCA and YMCA Fundraising Campaign, former Board of Directors of the Salvation Army, former member of the Alamance Country Club and their Board of Directors and a member of the Advisory Board of Elon University where he sponsored many scholarships. Mr. Comer was proud of his accomplishments but was humbled by honors he received and was modest about his accomplishments. His energy for life was boundless and his friends and loved ones are richer for having known him. Marvin once said, " I hope my life was measured by these I helped along the way and that I am always appreciative of good friends". Mr. Comer was preceded in death by his wife Aura Brown Comer, parents and 3 sisters, Percie Grose, Lacy Maynard and Jessie Hatley. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Friday, May 2, 2008 in the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. C. Allen Myers, III and Dr. Ronald Davis. Entombment will follow in Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum. Mr. Comer will remain at Lowe Funeral Home through the funeral service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:30 to 3:45 PM prior to the funeral service. The family would like to thank the caregivers who attended Aura and Marvin through their extended illnesses for their exceptional care and concern.
