Martha Walker

Martha Jane Cobb Walker, age 93, of Burlington, passed away Sunday, January 10, 2016 at Edgewood Place surrounded by her family. She was born on December 25, 1922 in Guilford County to the late Peter Rankin Cobb and the late Lizzie Michael Cobb. Jane retired from P. Lorillard after 27 years of service. She was a longtime member of Altamahaw Baptist Church, a former Auxillary Lady at Alamance County Hospital then later at Alamance Regional Medical Center, involved with Meals on Wheels and helped on the Bloodmobile with the American Red Cross. Mrs. Walker is survived by her two daughters, Geraldine W. Rayfield of Cascade, VA and Peggy W. Brown and husband, Bobby, of Gibsonville; four grandchildren, Robin Rayfield (Randy Hunsicker) of Cascade, VA, Robert F. Rayfield (Carmen) of Garner, L. Shane Brown of Reidsville and Misty B. Watkins (Chris) of Burlington; six great grandchildren; and special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Daisy Albright; and a son-in-law, H. Dwight Rayfield. A service will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at the Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel by Dr. Steve Tucker and Chaplin Jeff Knudson. The family will receive friends from 1:30 2:30 Wednesday prior to the service at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at the daughter, Peggy Browns home. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the entire staff at Edgewood Place for their loving care and dedication that they gave to Jane during her stay there.
