Martha Holley Norton, 89, went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, July 17, 2013. She was born on December 21, 1923 in Samson, Alabama to C. C. Holley and Kate Folmar Holley, both deceased. She was married for 45 years to the late C. Everett Norton prior to his passing in 1994. Martha was a graduate of Huntingdon College, Montgomery, AL and received a teaching certificate from Elon College. During World War II, she was in a management position with the Army Post Exchange Service in Alabama and Georgia. She moved to Burlington, NC in 1951 with her husband, an industrial engineer with Western Electric. She was primarily a homemaker, but also was a former 5th grade teacher at South Graham Elementary School and Director of the Funsters Program Burlington Recreation Department for the physically handicapped. She was an active member of Grove Park Baptist Church where she was a former teacher of the Windows Sunday School Class. She was also a devotional leader of the Widows Support Group and a former member of the Home Exchange Club. She is survived by a brother, Col. retired Robert C. Holley Andree of Panama City, FL; a sister-in-law, Frances S. Holley of Marianna, FL; her two sons, Larry Everett Norton Mary of Pacific Grove, CA and Alan Holley Norton Lisa of Elon, NC; a grandson, Matthew Everett Michael Norton; granddaughters, Riley Ann Norton and Sloane Holley Norton; nephews, Chris Holley, Dennis Holley and Terry Holley; niece, Johanna Duke Paley; and many special friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Martha was predeceased by a sister, Sarah Holley Hartman; brothers, William L. Holley and James Davison Holley; and sisters-in-laws, Mary Sue B. Holley and Martha Jean Norton Duke. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Lowe Funeral Home. Following a private burial, a memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 20, 2013 at Grove Park Baptist Church. The family would like to thank the Easttown physicians and staff of Kernodle Clinic and Alamance Regional Medical Center for its excellent and compassionate care during her final days. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grove Park Baptist Church, 108 Trail One, Burlington, NC 27215 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
