Martha Messick, 79, of Durham, North Carolina, left us peacefully on Thursday, March 13, 2025, leaving behind a legacy rich in creativity, compassion, and love. An avid gardener, Martha found joy and tranquility nurturing plants and flowers. She had a special gift with animals and the ability to connect lovingly with creatures great and small, from birds to horses. A friend to many, she was a cherished member of the community, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and strength. She had a strong faith that gave her peace and reassurance at the end.
Martha was passionate about preserving her family’s heritage, spending countless hours researching and documenting the stories of generations past. She will also be remembered for her skills in the kitchen, always ready to delight family and friends with her culinary creations.
Her artistic talents were boundless, whether designing elaborate ballet costumes, skillfully playing guitar and piano, or meticulously sewing clothing of any kind. Her creativity was an inspiration to all who knew her.
She was predeceased by her mother, Margaret Blackwell, her father George Weiss, and her brother Chris Weiss. She leaves behind her daughters Cherry Grubb and Amy Cervantes, and her granddaughters, Katy Grubb, Brooke Burke, and Bianca Cervantes.
