Marion Nixon Glasgow, 86, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at her home in Caswell County. She was born December 23, 1937 and raised in Randolph County (Millboro Community) and was the second daughter of Emery Causey and Annie Mae Nixon Glasgow. She moved to Caswell County in 2013 to be nearer to her niece and nephews who would oversee her care.
A graduate of Grays Chapel High School, Marion went on to attend Elon College (now University) and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Physical Education in 1960. She would fondly recall her long raincoat being an important part of her wardrobe since girls, not even Physical Education majors, were allowed to wear shorts on campus. The raincoat had to cover her shorts as she made her way to classes in the gym.
After graduating from Elon, she went on to teach Physical Education at the newly opened Turrentine School in Burlington. She taught there until 1984, when health issues forced her to leave.
Marion was very talented and she loved to read. Before her health prevented her from her hobbies, she would paint pictures, knit, crochet, sew, embroider, quilt and try anything new that would come along. She loved to go to quilt shows. Marion was a longtime member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Franklinville, NC. She was a former member of the Daughters of the Confederacy and a member of Community Flower Club.
She is survived by her nephews, David Rudd and Scott Rudd (Penny), her niece, Lisa Rudd and many special friends and family members in Randolph County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Billie Glasgow Rudd, brother-in-law, Willard Rudd and her little dog, “Bunny”.
A memorial service to celebrate Marion’s life will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Gary Williams. The family will receive friends from 11:45 – 12:45 prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the home. The burial will follow at Grays Chapel Methodist Church in Franklinville, NC.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to her car givers, Melissa and Nola, for all of their love and care given to Marion. Also, a special thank you to the Amedisys Hospice nurses and CNAs for their services.
Memorials may be made to Amedisys Hospice or a charity of choice.
