Marie McKiever Chanas died Sunday, March 4, 2007 in Elon, North Carolina. She was born June 2, 1919 in New York City, she lived most of her adult life in Union City, NJ. As a young woman, she swam professionally with The Billy Rose Aquacade and performed at the 1939 Worlds Fair in NY. She then had a 39 year career with Western Electric, working her way up to an executive secretary position. Marie was a Cub Scout leader for many years, an avid bowler and fine hand crafter, knitting, crocheting, sewing, painting and ceramics. She loved to garden, do crossword puzzles and visit Atlantic City, NJ. She is survived by her son, James and his wife Anne. Three grandchildren: Brian and wife Lesley of NYC, Peter and wife Kate of Winston Salem, Amy Miranda and husband Sergio of Charlotte. Three great-grandchildren: Caroline Miranda, Owen and Lila Chanas. Survived also by a sister, Theresa Bonacci of Union City, NJ and brother, Frank McKiever of Westbury, NY. A memorial mass will be held on Wednesday, March 28 at 11 am at Blessed Sacrament Church, 408 West Davis Street, Burlington. All are welcome to attend to celebrate her life and the blessing she was to her family.
