Burlington-Eva Marie Phillips McBride, 61 went home to be with the Lord from her home on Wednesday, June 3, 2020. Her strong will to live and unwavering faith in God carried her throughout her lengthy battle with cancer. She was a native of Alamance County and resident of Burlington.
Maria was a 1977 graduate of Walter M. Williams High School and worked in several retail sales positions in Burlington while completing nursing training programs at Alamance Technical College and Chapel Hill. After obtaining her Registered Nursing Certification she held positions at UNC Chapel Hill as a critical care and trauma nurse in the burn unit. She was a active volunteer with the Red Cross, enjoyed traveling, spending time with family, and taking care of the numerous awards.
Survivors include her brother, Gary Phillips of Fredericksburg, Virginia; nephew Gary Phillips II of Cedar Bluff, Alabama; niece, Michelle Phillips of Fredericksburg; Beverly Pimienta of Pinehurst, NC, Melissa Brooks of Burlington; grandnephews, John Michael Phillips of Fredericksburg, Santiago Pimienta, Jr. of Pinehurst, NC; grandnieces, Molly and Kayleigh Phillips of Atlanta, Georgia and her Aunts, Ruth Noah and Betty Phillips of Burlington, NC. She was preceded in death by her father, Pleasant H. Phillips; mother, Lillie S. Lane; brother, Mark A. Phillips of Burlington and a nephew, David T. Phillips of Fredericksburg, Virginia
The family will conduct a private remembrance service initially followed by a memorial service to be scheduled at a later date.
