Margo Roome Atkins was born on December 12, 1945 and returned to her heavenly Father on June 28, 2014. She died peacefully at home surrounded by love and family. She was born in Hackensack, NJ to Margaret and Lawrence Roome. She was an extremely loving wife and mother. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Larry Roome. Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Lon Atkins; her daughters, Michelle Bruner of Burlington and Sister Lisa Atkins, Religious Sister of Mercy. She was a lab specialist and retired from Ciba-Geigy in Greensboro. She was a current member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and a long-term member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in High Point where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. She was an enthusiastic volunteer with Meals on Wheels as well as a loyal volunteer to various ministries of the Sisters of Mercy in Belmont, NC. She was also devoted to Covenant House in New York City which cares for homeless children. Margo demonstrated a genuine love and passion for God, family and friends. Her kindness and gentleness were abundant. She thrived on cooking and enjoyed traveling and entertaining. She loved animals. Her faith in God was immense. She was truly a gift from God we will miss every second without her. The family expresses deep gratitude to Joe and Mimi Alef who stuck by her side through thick and thin. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sisters of Mercy, South Central, 101 Mercy Drive, Belmont, NC 28012. "If I can emulate even a small morsel of my mom's character it would be an honor. Every encounter with another individual would have meaning, they would walk away feeling like their world just got a little brighter."
