Burlington, NC Mamertus Mertus Summers Brown, age 92, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 24, 2007 at Twin Lakes Healthcenter. She was a native of Rockingham County and the wife of the late Elmo Brown who passed away in 1994. Mamertus lived in Guilford County during her youth but spent the remainder of her married life in Alamance County. Mamertus was a homemaker and member of Bethlehem Christian Church. She was a member of the Ever Ready Sunday School Class for over 60 years and she served in the past as a Youth Group Advisor for the church. She served as a Grade Parent for Elon High School. Mamertus enjoyed growing flowers, especially roses. Her family and her church where the center of her life. Survivors include her daughter, Kaaren Brown of Burlington and numerous nieces and nephews; sister-in-laws, Leona Moore, Anderrena Lewis and her husband, Sam, Mildred Thomas and her husband, John, and Nellie Brown. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, Robert Peter and Sallie Jane Ella Clapp Summers and her brothers and sister-in-laws; Ted Summers and his wife, Alma, Pete Summers and his wife, Annie and Lou Summers and his wife, Lallah; sister-in-law and deceased spouses, Viola Wade Litten; brother-in-law, Thomas Brown. A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, February 27, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. at Bethlehem Christian Church by Rev. Matthew Smith and Pastor C. Allen Myers, III and the burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home of her daughter, 627C W. Front Street, Burlington, NC. The family request that the Ever Ready Sunday School Class and Mamertus neighbors sit together at the service.
