Mae Andrews

Gibsonville Mrs. Mae Lee Andrews, 96, went to her heavenly home on Friday, October 2, 2009 after several months of illness. She was the wife of the late Homer F. Andrews and was a life-long resident of Guilford County. She is survived by a daughter and son-in law, Betty Carol and Max Elmore, grandson and wife, Tim and Lisa Lee Elmore, and great-grandson, Austin Lee Elmore, all of Gibsonville; a sister, Mrs. Ora Smith of Gibsonville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer F. Andrews, father and mother, B. R. and Martha Barber Ingold, a grandson, Mark Elmore, a sister, Sallie Ingold Allen and two brothers, Earlie and Vester Ingold. She leaves behind several nieces and nephews and friends, and most of all Jim Swaney, who lived with her and helped her with the farming for several years. She was truly an outdoors person, and never remembered owning a baby doll as a child. Her life of farming began as at the age of five, driving the tractor to help her mother and father during the time of his illness and death in 1925. She and her husband farmed for many years and she retired from the Guilford County School System as Cafeteria Manager of Busick and Monticello Schools with 30 years of service. Mrs. Andrews was a member of Apple's Chapel Christian Church, loyally and faithfully serving her Lord, her church and ministering to the church family and community in so many ways. She was a former choir member and Sunday School teacher and active with the church women's ministry. She loved gardening and cooking and was known for her fried apple pies and chicken pies. She enjoyed helping the church women with Brunswick stews back when the ladies gathered to pluck and clean the chickens for the annual fall harvest festivals. She was a life-long member of the Busick Home Demonstration Club, the Sunshine Club of Brown Summit and Keenagers Club. Visitation will be on Sunday, October 4, at Apple's Chapel Christian Church, Gibsonville from 6-8 pm. The funeral will be held Monday, October 5, 2009 at 2:00 pm at the church by Rev. C. Allen Myers III, Rev. Tim Geiger, Rev. Don Ledbetter. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those wishing to remember her should do so through memorial contributions to Apple's Chapel Christian Church, 7345 NC 61 North, Gibsonville, 27249 or Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave, Greensboro, 27405. The family wishes to thank all who served her so faithfully especially church nurses, Pam Blanchard and Sheri Jones and Pastors Myers, Geiger and Dudley, Care givers, Ms. Marie Scales, Ms Darlene Ray, Ms. Mae Motley and Ms. Lib Donnell.
