Mable Idell Apple Lanning Powell, 92, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 19, 2024 at Ashton Place. She was born in Guilford County to the late Lexie and Helen Heath Apple and was married to the late Gilbert Powell.
Mable was a supervisor in textiles and was a former employee of Proctor and Gamble. At the age of 17, during “Cotton Week” she was featured in a portrait wearing a cotton dress, sitting on a bale of cotton, holding a stick of cotton and wearing a cotton corsage, while she was working at the White Oak Plant of Cone Mills which was the world’s largest denim plant at that time. Mable was a loving and devoted Christian lady who enjoyed serving the Lord in her local church, community and her own family.
She is survived by her sister, Margaret Smith and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and siblings, Hallie Morton, Louise Robertson Thomas, Rev. Charles Apple, W.J. Apple, Paul Apple and Warren Apple.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 12:30 PM Monday, January 29, 2024 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by her nephew, Rev. Mark Robertson with interment to follow in Lakeview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 11:30-12:15 PM Monday at the funeral home prior to the service.
