Mable Dameron McKinney

November 6, 1924 — January 4, 2025

Elon

Mable Dameron McKinney, a beloved matriarch, peacefully went home to be with her Lord on January 4, 2024, at the age of 100, at the Hospice Home. Born on November 6, 1924, in Caswell County, she was the cherished daughter of the late Walter Anderson and Lillian Maude Fuqua Dameron. Mable was the devoted wife of the late Samuel Floyd McKinney, who preceded her in death in 2006 after 58 wonderful years together.

Throughout her life, Mable was a dedicated homemaker, an exceptional seamstress, and a vibrant member of Grove Park Baptist Church. She found joy in guiding youth in Sunday School and actively participating in mission groups. Mable’s spirit and enthusiasm were evident in her long-time involvement with the Windows Sunday School Class, as much as her health allowed. Together with Sam, she cherished moments in the Senior Adult Choir “Melody Makers” and enjoyed memorable bus trips led by Rodger Roach.

Mable and Sam shared countless joyful memories camping, biking, square dancing, and hosting loved ones at their beach house in Ocean Lakes. Their home in Elon, which they built with their son, Michael, served as a canvas for Mable’s green thumb; she delighted in tending to her extensive collection of named Day Lilies, sharing them generously with her day lily club, friends, neighbors, and grandchildren.

Her passion for sports was evident as she followed Michael through his football journey, while also bonding with her sister, Nancy, as die-hard fans of the Atlanta Braves, UNC Men’s basketball, and ACC Women’s Basketball. In her later years, Mable created warm friendships with the residents and staff at Cedar Ridge Senior Living and Blakey Hall Assisted Living, often endearing herself to others with the sweet words, “I just love her; she reminds me so much of my mother,” and her loving hugs.

Mable is survived by her daughters, Linda McKinney McIntyre and her husband Howard of Roxboro, and Carolyn McKinney Baughan and her husband Ron of Gibsonville; son, Michael Anderson McKinney and his wife Karen of Midland; cherished grandchildren Jamie Baughan, Jimmy (Stephanie) Baughan, Brian McIntyre, Susan McIntyre, Megane (Ron) Geddings, Lt. Col. Meredith (Jeff) Nelson, and Madison (James) Wells; great-grandchildren, Ben and Samantha Hart, Andy, Abbie, Alex Geddings, Avery, Parker, Porter, and Piper Nelson, Lucy, Tesa, and Mitchell Baughan, Nora Hazel Wells and her sister, Nancy Dameron of Burlington. Notably, Mable flew on an airplane only three times in her 100 years, journeying to Louisiana, New Mexico, and Kentucky to visit her adored grands and great-grands.

Mable was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, her infant great granddaughter Baby Ruth Carole Wells, and her siblings: sister, Ruby Pierce and her brothers, Joseph, Glenn, Eugene, Lea, Maxie and Grant Dameron.

A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at 2:00PM on Friday, January 10, 2025, at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel, by Rev. Dr. Marc Sanders. The family will receive friends from 12:45-1:45PM prior to the service. A private burial will be at Alamance Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to Grove Park Baptist Church, 108 Trail One, Burlington, NC 27215 or AuthoraCare, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215. Condolences may be shared, and the service will be available for viewing online at www.lowefuneralhome.com Mable's legacy will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
