Mr. Lynn Gerald Crutchfield, 57 of Burlington passed away Sunday August 1, 2010 surrounded by loved ones. He fought a courageous battle with brain cancer for more than two years. His continuous bravery was an inspiration to his family and friends. A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel in Burlington by Rev. Reid Dickens and Dr. Wallace "Wally" Snyder. Surviving are his wife of 34 years, Sheree D. Crutchfield of the home; daughter Jessica E. Crutchfield of Durham; his mother and stepfather, Jean and Vernon Garrison of Burlington; his sister, Susan Oakley of Burlington; his great uncle, Elbridge Boswell of Burlington; niece, Nikki Raftery and her family, Jerod and Kaden of Burlington; and nephews, Stephen Oakley of Burlington and Bryan Oakley of Raleigh. Also surviving are an aunt and uncle from Greensboro, NC, Bill and Mary King, as well as many cousins and close friends. Lynn was born in Watertown, NY on May 3, 1953 until his family moved, shortly thereafter, to Burlington, NC. He was the son of the late Jay Ryan Crutchfield; grandson of the late Edgar and Eva King; grandson of the late Rev. G.C. and Cassie Crutchfield; and nephew of the late G. Ervin King, Florence King, and Robert King. Lynn was one of the original members of the Burlington Boys Choir and often talked of their adventures with Miss Eva Wiseman. He was a graduate of Walter M. Williams High School in Burlington and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where he met his wife and best friend Sheree. Lynn was a member of the startup team that founded Acucote Inc. in 1987. At Acucote, he held positions in business development, sales and marketing, and executive management. Prior to his appointment as President in 2005, he was Executive Vice President/COO. In addition to serving as President of Acucote, Lynn was also the leader of Acucote's Brand Protection team which formed The Brand Protection Alliance, LLC in 2005. Lynn enjoyed and deserved a widespread and highly respected reputation in the self-adhesive materials industry. Lynn was a member of Front Street United Methodist Church, where he taught 4th grade Sunday School for several years. An avid DUKE basketball fan, we will always fondly remember his passion and animation as displayed during the games. Lynn was also very active in the Arabian Horse Association and served as president of the North Carolina Arabian Horse Association NCAHA for many years. He spent countless hours helping his daughter Jessica get her horses ready for the show and was truly one of those special "horse show dads." He proudly stated to all that his greatest memory was when his daughter won a national championship. Lynn's big warm grin was always positive reinforcement for his horse show friends. The same warm grin continued to be offered to all throughout his illness no matter how trying his situation. Lynn's family would all like to express our sincere gratitude to the wonderful and caring staff of the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke University Medical Center. Lynn's exceptional care continued over the past 2 years and, no doubt, measurably extended his time with us. We also would like to thank the dedicated and caring staff involved with CARE program at Alamance Regional Medical Center. Finally, our thanks to the wonderful caring Hospice staff, especially Phoebe and Lou his #1 team. They provided love and care for Lynn and his family during his final days. May they all be as blessed as the blessing and comfort they provide. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Tuesday evening at the funeral home and other times at the home of Jean and Vernon Garrison. 2411 Grand Oaks Blvd, Burlington, NC 27215.
