Lydia Sheard Pankratz

   Lydia grew up on a dairy farm in northeastern PA and graduated from Damascus (PA) High School and East Stroudsburg Teachers College.  She was married to the late Erwin W. Pankratz who passed away in 1995.  They lived in Beach Lake, PA where he was a building contractor and she was a teacher for 22 years at the Wayne Highlands School District in Honesdale, PA.  She also taught Sunday School for many years.  They both retired in 1986 and moved to Elon, NC where they enjoyed the warmer climate and made many friends.  She was a faithful member of Altamahaw Baptist Church and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. 

   Lydia is survived by her two sons, Ronald, living near Hershey, PA and Raymond and his wife Rebecca of Burlington, NC, six grandchildren and thirty great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Sheard and Ronald’s wife, Lorraine Blum Pankratz.

   A funeral service will be held at 3:00pm on Friday, September 16, 2022 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel with her grandson, Rev. Joel Pankratz officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at Ray’s home.  The burial will be held at 11:30am on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at Calkins Union Cemetery in Calkins, PA.

   In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Lydia’s memory to Salem Presbyterian Church, 2383 Burch Bridge Rd., Burlington, NC or to Altamahaw Baptist Church, 3445 Altamahaw Church St, Elon, NC 27244.
