Luther Andrews, Sr.

Burlington, NC Luther William Andrews, Sr. age 96 formerly of S. Mebane Street passed away Friday, June 8, 2012 at Liberty Commons. He was a native of Alamance County and the husband of the late Elsie Kimbro Andrews. Luther retired as a driver after 45 years for Burlington Industries Transportation Division. He was the oldest living member of The First Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church which he loved and served faithfully in for many years. Luther was an avid baseball fan and a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Luther is survived by his daughter, Patricia "Pat" A. Smith and her husband, Richard of Burlington; daughter-in-law, Betty S. Andrews of Burlington; grandchildren, Rodney V. Smith and wife, Malania, Richard Bret Smith, Michael Andrews and Christopher Andrews and wife, Whitley; great grandchildren, Davis Smith, Jason Smith, Claire Smith, Taylor Andrews, Gage Andrews, Nicholas Andrews and Nyla Andrews; brother, Vernon Andrews and his wife, Ollie of Burlington; sister, Mabel Long and her husband, Willie of Burlington. He was preceded in death by his wife, son, Luther W. Andrews, Jr.; parents, Willie Anderson Andrews and Maggie Baulding Andrews; step mother, Rochina Stuart Andrews; sisters, Beulah Yarborough and Lucille Rice; brothers, James Weldon Andrews and Jessie Morris Andrews. The family of Luther Andrews would like to thank the nurses and staff of Liberty Commons and Hospice of Alamance-Caswell for their kind and compassionate care of Luther. A service to celebrate his life will be held on Monday, June 11, 2012 at 3:00 pm at the First Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church by Rev. Bryan Gregory, Rev. Tim Robinson and Rev. Wade Rice and the burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:45 until 2:45 prior to the service at the church and other times at the home of his daughter.
