Lorenza “Mack” Williams, affectionately known as PopPop, 98, of Gibsonville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 17, 2022.
Mack was born June 8, 1924, in Guilford County to Harrison Hanford Williams, and Allie Roupe Williams. He worked for A&P Supermarket as a Produce Manager for 38 years. After retirement, he managed Ken’s Quickie Mart for years and later could be found volunteering at Jack’s BBQ. He was well loved by his family and community and never met a stranger. Mack was a devoted member of Evangelical Methodist Church in Gibsonville, where he served in numerous ways, including being Sunday School Superintendent for many years. He continued to drive himself to church every Sunday morning until recent months when he became ill.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 48 years, Mildred Summers Williams, son-in-law, Steve Barker, sister, Helen Williams Scott, and brothers, Harry Williams, Jr., Paul Williams and Kenneth Williams. He is survived by his daughters, Janie Barker and Linda Hogan and husband Rudy; son, Dennis Williams and wife Jo Ann; grandchildren, Andrea Garrison and husband Rodney, Jamie Hogan and wife Jodi, and Jeff Hogan and wife Kelly; great-grandchildren, Hayden Garrison and wife Kensley, Trinity Hogan, A.J. Hogan, Alex Hogan and Bailey Hogan.
A celebration of Mack’s life will be held Saturday, November 19, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory. The family will receive friends from 12:45 - 1:45 p.m. prior to the service. Interment to follow at Frieden’s Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family will be at Mack’s home following interment.
