Lonnie Garmon

Mr. Lonnie Evans Garmon, age 99, of Burlington, was welcomed into Heaven and the loving arms of God on Friday, September 30, 2016 as his family and pastor gathered around him in prayer.
Born on December 31, 1916, to the late J.B. and Betty Garmon, he spent the first part of his life on a farm in Cumberland County. He was married to his loving wife, Josephine Autry Garmon, on May 30, 1936 and they moved to Burlington in 1949, where he began his textile career with Burlington Industries and then later with Guilford Mills. He accepted the Lord as his Savior and became a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in 1949, where he served throughout the years as a Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, Assistant to the Pastor and as a Board Member. He was committed to his faith and his church and he attended his last service on September 11, 2016. In every thought and deed he reflected the principles of life that Jesus taught and the beliefs that Christians profess. His Christian example was a blessing to all he met and they were better people to have had him in their lives.
He leaves not to mourn, but rather cherish sweet memories, his daughter, Betty Garmon Bridges of Morganton; his three sons; Johnnie Garmon and wife, Nancy, of Tabor City, NC, Larry Garmon and wife, Judy, of Gibsonville and Bruce Wayne Garmon of Burlington; nine grandchildren; twenty one great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; and his special friend, Ann Allen. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; a daughter, Linda Garmon Rumple; son-in-law, Charles "Pete" Bridges; grandson; Brent Wayne Garmon; great grandson, Corey Rivers; three brothers; two sisters; and many other relatives.
The committal service will be held at 1:00 Monday, October 3, 2016 at Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum and followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 3:00 PM at the First Church of the Nazarene. The family will receive friends at Mr. Garmon's residence.
