Lillie Mae Chandler Walker, 91, of Burlington died on Thursday, December 16, 2010 at her home. She was born in Caswell County to the late James Yancey and Hattie Walters Chandler and was married to the late George Lacy "Pete" Walker, Jr. She was a lifetime member of First Christian United Church of Christ and the Lila B. Sellars Sunday school class. Growing up on a tobacco farm in Caswell County, she was no stranger to work. Mrs. Walker worked alongside her husband for many years as they created a family business: first, Pete's Frozen Custard, Laundromats, Putt-Putt golf and settled into the car wash business in 1963, all while raising three children. She was the fifth child of eleven and is survived by her sister, Julia Goodes of VA and brothers, John Chandler of Caswell County and Larry Chandler of FL. She is also survived by her daughter, Judy Walker of Burlington; son, Kenneth Katherine Walker of Durham; grandchildren, Brian Megan Walker, Steven Ashley Walker, Charlie Katie Walker and Pete Lauren Walker; great granddaughters, Addison and Lillie Walker and many nieces and nephews of which she was very fond. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, son, Donald R. "Lil' Donnie" Walker, brothers and sisters, Lucille Wilson, Elsie Wrightenberry, Jack Chandler, J.Y. Chandler, Gertrude Bennett, Willie Payne and Bea Sparrow. The funeral will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 Sunday prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the home of her daughter, Judy Walker, 421 Westhampton Drive, Burlington. Special thanks to Momma's wonderful friends and caregivers, Sandy "Ann", Missy, Whitney and Krista. They enriched her life every day and allowed her to be happy and well cared for at her home. To all the kind and caring people from Hospice we are truly grateful, especially, Robin who became our friend and guided us through the experience from beginning to end with much love and support.
