Lewis Carter

Elon, NC Lewis Earl Carter, age 58, of Pagetown Road went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 16, 2010 surrounded by his family. He was a native of Guilford County and the husband of Ellen Carter who survives. Lewis retired from Piedmont Plumbing after 15 years and he was also a farmer in the Pagetown Community. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and horseman who brought a smile to everyone he met with his dry wit. Lewis will be remembered for his willingness to help other people in their times of need. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Ellen Carter of the home; daughters, JoEllen Thompson and her husband, Roger of Elon, Tamara Ward and her husband, Bubbie of Burlington and Sandy Hunsinger and her husband, Kevin of White Oak; sons, Ben Carter and his wife, Stacey of Mebane and Andy Carter of Snow Camp; ten grandchildren; sisters, Elaine Hull and her husband, Eddie of Clemmons and Brenda Cain and her husband, Wimp of Asheboro; brother-in-law, Pete Kernodle of Indiana. He was preceded in death by his son, Jody Freshwater; granddaughter, Leia Ward; parents, Charles Edwin Carter, Sr. and Catherine Brady Carter; sister, Patricia Kernodle and a brother, Buck Carter. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. at Glencoe Baptist Church by Pastor Darrell Massey. The family will receive friends at other times at 2653 Pagetown Road, Elon, NC. Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family.
