Leroy Jernigan

Leroy Davenport Jernigan, age 85, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 3, 2011. He was born in Darlington, SC to the late Leon C. and Fanny Kelly Jernigan and was married to the late Catherine Perkins Jernigan. Leroy retired from Burlington Industries and was a member of Grove Park Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Navy Seabees and was a veteran of WWII and the Korean War. Mr. Jernigan was an avid bicyclist and gardener. Survivors include his daughter, Cynthia J. Brande of Burlington; sons, Carroll Leroy Jernigan of Pfafftown and Donald E. Jernigan of Burlington; grandson, Joseph Clay Drye and two great granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, sister, Mary Ella Rogers and brothers, Heyward, James K., Rudolph and Charles Jernigan. The funeral service will be held on Monday, June 6, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Gene Hunsinger with interment to follow in Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Grove Park Baptist Church, 108 Trail One, Burlington, NC 27215.
