Leonard Wesley “Butch” Soots, Sr., 82, passed away on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at Moses Cone Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born on April 6, 1939 in Guilford County to the late Auburn Paris Soots and Emma Catherine Parrish Soots, and was the husband of 62 ½ years to Mary Lou Whitaker Soots who survives.
Leonard retired as a Captain with the Burlington Fire Department after 30 ½ years of service. He enjoyed spending time teaching and instructing the volunteer firefighters. Leonard was a U.S. veteran of the Army National Guard and enjoyed fishing. Leonard was a caring and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be dearly missed.
Survivors other than his wife, Mary Whitaker Soots include his son, Leonard “Wes” Soots, Jr. and wife, Jodie; grandsons, Wesley Adam Soots and wife Jamie, and Corey Eathon Soots and girlfriend Taylor; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Beatrice Wallace, Agnes Evans and Betty Smith.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Thursday, June 17, 2021 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Jerry Langley with the burial to follow in Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7pm Wednesday at Lowe Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
Memorials may be made to a Volunteer Fire Department of your choice.
