Leonard Phillippie

Leonard E. Phillippie, age 81, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 17, 2008 at his home surrounded by his family. He was a native of Alamance County and the husband of 56 years to Doris Shaw Phillippie who survives. Leonard was employed for 30 years with Kayser Roth and retired from Sobar Graphics in Greensboro after 12 years. He was a member of Low's Lutheran Church where he served on the property committee, church council and as an usher. Leonard's passion was restoring clocks and spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Doris Shaw Phillippie of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Renee Phillippie Merlini and her husband, John of Greensboro; sons, Michael Phillippie of Burlington and Barry Phillippie of the home; grandchildren, Jonathan Merlini, Sandra Merlini and Lauren Merlini; sisters, Fannie Marley, Lucy Culberson, Alice Marley, Marie Forbes all of Burlington, Brenda Allen of Mooresville; brothers, Willard Phillippie of Liberty, Burn Phillippie, Glen Phillippie, Bobby Phillippie all of Burlington and June Phillippie of Graham. He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett Phillippie and Cladie Shoffner Phillippie; step mother, Dessie Smithey Phillippie. The family wishes to express their appreciation for the kindness and care Penny Butler gave to Leonard and the Phillippie family. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at Low's Lutheran Church by The Rev. Dr. David N. Mielke and the burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state 1 hour prior to the service at the church and the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Friday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home.
