Lee Burkett Cox, 87, passed away Saturday, February 15, 2020 at the Hospice Home. He was born on July 26, 1932 in Randolph County to the late Elmer Ray Cox and Cora Garner Cox and was married to the late Mary Ellen “Sue” Highfill Cox who died in 2011.
Lee retired from the City of Burlington as a supervisor with the Sanitation Department. He was a member of Long’s Chapel Christian Church, American Legion Post #427 in Haw River and a US Air Force veteran of the Korean War.
He is survived by his sons, Steven Cox and wife Mona, David Cox and wife Tina; a daughter, Susan Burgess and fiancé Randy Miller; 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren; half-sisters, Shirley Leath, Sarah Hunter, Rhonda Wrent and Delores; half-brothers, Wade Cox, Charles Cox, Billy Cox, Jerry Cox and Kenneth Cox.
Lee was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; a daughter, Kathryn Moore; his parents; step-mother, Beulah Cox and brothers, James Cox, Ray Cox, Glenn Cox and Roger Cox.
The graveside service will be held at 2:00pm Monday, February 17, 2020 at Long’s Chapel Christian Church Cemetery by Rev. R.J. Zupancich. The family will receive friends following the graveside service.
