Burlington, NC Lee Roy "Red" Bennett, age 86, of Ridgecrest Avenue went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 31, 2008 at White Oak Manor. He was a native of Alamance County and the husband of 60 years to Frances Mooney Bennett. Red retired from Tire Sales with over twenty years of service. He was a member of Grove Park Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, an usher and a Sunday School teacher for over twenty years. Red was a veteran of WW II serving in the US Army Airforces. Survivors include his wife of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Russell and her husband, Robert of Greensboro; son, Douglas "Doug" Bennett of Burlington; daughter-in-law, Carobeth Bennett of Kernersville, six grandchildren and one great grandson; sister, Rebecca "Becky" Atkins of Burlington; brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank Bennettt and his wife, Eris of Burlington and Wallace Bennett and his wife, Louise of Graham. He was preceded in death by his son, Reginald "Reggie" Bennett; parents, Charlie Franklin and Nonie Cobb Bennett; sisters, Mildred Jobe and Grace Loy; brothers, Garland, Chalmers and Marvin Monroe Bennett. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 2, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at Grove Park Baptist Church by Dr. Eugene Hunsinger and assisted by Rev. Bill Vickrey and Rev. Wallace Mooney. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall of the church and other times at the home.
