Lawrence Zimmerman

Lawrence Wade Zimmerman, age 85, passed away Monday November 7, 2016 at Homeplace in Burlington.
A native of Guilford County, he was the son of the late Lawrence Worth and Lillie Apple Zimmerman. He was a lifetime member of Apple's Chapel Christian Church. Wade graduated from Monticello High School, attended Elon College and completed 2 years at Alamance Technical Community College. He retired from Alcatel-Lucent Technologies (Western Electric) with over 30 years of service. He served in the 82nd Airborne Infantry Regiment during the Korean Conflict. He served as a volunteer firefighter with the Northeast Fire Department in Browns Summit. He enjoyed helping his parents at the Greensboro Curb Market and spent many pleasurable hours at Kirk's Sineath Motor Co. with his longtime friend, the late Bruce Kirkman.
Survivors include his sons, Steven B. Zimmerman and wife Lisa of Greensboro, Alan W. Zimmerman and wife Sherry of Bristol, VA and daughter Alycia Durham and husband Ronnie of Gibsonville; grandchildren, Austin Zimmerman and wife Corrie of Pleasant Garden, Meredith Zimmerman of Greensboro, Cole and Lauren Zimmerman of Bristol, VA, Alea Heath of Bristol, VA, Cassidy Rimer and husband Ethan of Durham, Matthew and Victoria Durham of Gibsonville; brothers Raymond Zimmerman of Gibsonville and Worth Zimmerman and wife Sarah of Burlington; former wife and mother of his children, Betty Jo Soyars Zimmerman of Browns Summit and former wife Mary Roberts Zimmerman of Burlington.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Thursday, November 10, 2016 at Apple's Chapel Christian Church by Pastor Dave Johnson and Rev. C. Allen Myers, III. Interment will follow in Apple's Chapel Cemetery.
Mr. Zimmerman will remain at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory until being taken to the church for service. The family will receive friends at Lowe Funeral Home from 6-8pm Wednesday and at other times at the home of his daughter; 7426 Apple-Murray Rd., Gibsonville.
