Larry Dean Metcalf, age 64, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at Duke University Medical Center. He was born in St. Louis, Illinois to the late Arthur and Fern Opal Brown Metcalf. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Helena Mae Wright Metcalf. Larry was employed with Springwood Products for several years. He served in US Army during the Vietnam War. He was a lifetime member of the DAV and a member of the American Legion and the VFW in Geneva, Ohio. Larry was proud of his service to his country despite having a service connected disability. He was an avid fan of wresting and his favorite wrestler was "Rick Flare". Larry had a great sense of humor and he never met a stranger. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Helena Mae Wright Metcalf of the home; sons, Jon Metcalf and wife, Paula of Mebane and Rodney Metcalf and wife, Sherry of Henderson; grandchildren, Jonathan Metcalf, Cody Curry, Crystal Smith, Charles Smith, Amanda Metcalf and Chris White; five great grandchildren; brothers, George Metcalf and Terry Katherine Metcalf both of South Carolina and Gary Metcalf of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents. A service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 11:00 am at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel and the family will receive friends following the service. The family will be at the home of his son, Jon Metcalf at other times. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
