Larry McKinney, Sr.

Saturday, July 29, 2017 , in the hush of 4:00 AM, the angels stood guard as the archangels spread their comforting wings to encompass Larry Stevens McKinney, Sr. as they lifted him from the presence of his beloved family to the presence of his beloved God.
A native of Alamance county, born June 1, 1947, he was the husband of Diane Kay Armstrong McKinney for 48 years, who survives and the son of Joseph Nathaniel and Sarah Pauline Wright McKinney, Sr., both deceased.
Larry had the privilege of working in upholstery with his father for 35 years at McKinney Upholstery on Durham Street Ext. He then worked for almost 15 years at Walmart until his retirement. He was an avid UNC Tarheel basketball fan. A pushover for is felines, he deeply enjoyed bird watching and all things flea market related.
He is survived by his wife, Diane; daughter, Edith Ann Jones; sons, Larry Stevens McKinney, Jr. (Sherri) and Michael Rodney McKinney. A brother Joseph Nathaniel McKinney, Jr.; sister, Mary "Polly" Prince (Lloyd) and numerous nieces and nephews. Calling him pawpaw are Angela Green (Chad Perry), Wesley Joseph McKinney, Amber Jones (Ricky Jeffries), Jordan Jones, Rachel McKinney (Travis Chriscoe), Beth McKinney, Mallory Smith (Jon), Dustin Davis and a great grandchild Kayden Jeffries. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Angela Marie McKinney and a brother Edward Marion McKinney.
Larry's family will receive friends and family on Tuesday August 1, 2017 from 6-8 PM at Lowe Funeral Home to celebrate his life and honor his service as a Vietnam Veteran and cancer survivor. A service will be conducted Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at 2:00 PM in Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Randy Orwig with burial to follow in Linwood Cemetery of Graham.
At other times the family may be visited at 2307 Tucker Street, Burlington.
