Larry Hinshaw

Larry Lamar Hinshaw, 73, went home to be with his heavenly father on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at the Hospice Home surrounded by his family. Larry was a loving husband, dad, brother and a very special Paw Paw to his three grandchildren that he cherished dearly. He was born in Alamance County to the late Vern Albert Hinshaw, Sr. and the late Rosa Bare Hinshaw and was the husband of 50 years to Phyllis Ann Powers Hinshaw who survives. Larry retired as the assistant Park Ranger with the Guilford County Mackintosh Lake after being with the City of Burlington for 11 years. He was formerly employed with Pet Diary for 26 years and graduated from Walter Williams High School in 1959. Larry was a member of Harvest Hills Church. He enjoyed rocking in his chair talking to his neighbors and friends in his carport or in the driveway when they walked by. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Tonya Hinshaw of Gibsonville; grandchildren, Joseph Anthony Hinshaw, Patrick Evans Hinshaw and Sarah Louise Hinshaw; sister, Lucille H. Williams of Burlington; brother and sisters-in-law, Donald Lee and Vanetta Hinshaw of Maryland and Margaret Hinshaw of Burlington; special nieces, Linda Ron Jordan and Ann Melvin Combs and several other nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Stella Louise Garner Powers Phillips of Bennett, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Alma Jewell Moore, Eunice Smith and Olene Scott; brothers, Vern Albert "Buster" Hinshaw, Jr. and Hurley Franklin Hinshaw. A memorial service to celebrate Larry's life will be held 4:00pm Thursday, May 29, 2014 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Russell Morris and Rev. Wayne Rouse. A reception and visitation will follow the service at the funeral home and other times the family will be at the residence. The entombment at Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum will be private.
