Stoney Creek, NC Larry Odell Beck, age 78, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 2, 2012 at Moses Cone Hospital. He was a native of Davidson County and the husband of 55 years to Carol Schubert Beck who survives. Larry retired after 34 years of service with Lucent Technologies and was a veteran of the US Navy serving during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Copitol Radio Engineering Institute. Larry was a member of Gibsonville United Methodist Church where he sang in the church choir for many years. He served on the Staff Parrish Relations Committee and was a delegate to the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. Larry also participated in the Alive in Christ Bible study and prayer group at his church. He was a former member of the Alamance Chorale and the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America. Larry volunteered with the Alamance County Meals on Wheels and served the Boy Scouts as a Scoutmaster of Troop # 726 and as an Explorer leader. Larry was a member of the Order of The Arrow a brotherhood recognizing exceptional scouts and scout leaders. He was a loving and devoted husband and father. Survivors include his wife, Carol Schubert Beck of the home; daughter, Sherry K. Beck of Greensboro and a son, Randy Beck and his wife Lynne of Jamestown; sister, Pat Miller of Archdale and brothers, Delbert Judy Beck of Thomasville, Mack Beck of Asheboro and Bill Martha Beck of Thomasville. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Odell and Virginia Varker Beck and a step mother, Gladys Beck; sister, Lucille Cross and a brother, Charles Beck. A service to celebrate his life will be held on Thursday, July 5, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the Gibsonville United Methodist Church by Rev. Jonathan Marlowe and Rev. Dr. Angela Marlowe. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 pm prior to the service at the church. A committal service will be held in the church immediately following the service with military honors provided by the US Navy. A private burial will be held at Gibsonville City Cemetery.
