Gibsonville, NC Lance Corporal Roger Gary Michael Hager, age 20, of Broad Street in Gibsonville was killed in action in Afghanistan on Wednesday, July 8, 2009 while conducting combat operations against enemy forces. Roger was a 2008 graduate of Western Alamance High School entering in the Marine Corps shortly after graduation. He was with Company A, 2nd Recon Battalion a part of the 2nd Marine division. Roger enjoyed playing computer games, paintball and studying insects. He was easy going and never met a stranger and will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. Survivors include his mother and step father, Elaine Anna Hager and Donald Farren of Gibsonville; father, Darrell Steven Graves of Shelbyville, Tennessee; sisters, PV2 Faith Strang of the home, Leighann Graves of Knoxville, Tennessee; brother, CPL Jeremy Scott Hager of Mesa, Arizona; paternal grandmother, Bertha L. Burnett of Shelbyville, Tennessee; maternal grandmother, Pat Ducas of Tiffin, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, William Graves; maternal grandfathers, Oscar Frederick Hebert and Roger Paul Ducas. A service to celebrate his life will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by pastor Brian Biggers. The committal service will follow at Gibsonville City Cemetery with full military honors being provided by the US Marine Corps.
