Funeral services for Lacy E. Hagood Sr., 85, will be at 11:00 am. Thursday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev Powell Sykes officiating. Colonel Hagood died Friday, 28th Oct, 2005 in Lawton, Oklahoma. Burial with full Military honors will be held at Pine Hill Cemetery, Burlington. He was born June 25, 1920 in Schoolfield, VA, to John T. and Ema Clay Hagood. He attended Burlington High School and Elon University, NC. He excelled in many sports including Football, Boxing, Baseball, Basketball, and Track. He married Margaret E. Vaughn on Dec 8 1945 in Burlington. She died on April 20 1991. He joined the US Army in 1943 and served in every enlisted and officer rank up to and including Colonel 06. He retired from the military in March 1971. He served in World War II and Korea. Some of his duties included Chief of the Awards Branch, and Chief of the Separation Branch, Department of the Army. Awards include: The Legion of Merit, Army Commendation Medal w/1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal w/X year device, Department of Defense Identification Badge, Army Occupation Medal Germany-Japan, World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and National Defense Service Medal w/Oak Leaf Cluster. He was inducted into the AInfantry Hall of Fame@ in 1979 for his outstanding Military Career. He loved to fly and obtained his Commercial Pilot Licensee at Manassas VA. He also showed Champion AOld English Sheep Dogs@ all over the country. He was a devoted pet lover and cared for 100's of homeless pets over the years. Survivors include a son and daughter- in-law; Lacy E. Hagood Jr. and Donna L. Hagood of Lawton OK and two daughters; Peggy Elizabeth Mueller of Columbia SC, and Elizabeth Ann Hagood of Lawton OK; 8 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, all 5 of his brothers; Grover, Burnell, Max, Julian, and Bill; and a son-in-law Mark Mueller
