Burlington-Kerney Edgar Overman, Jr. age 87, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, August 17, 2015 after several years of declining health. He was a native of Alamance County and the husband of the late Mary Terrell Overman for over 55 years. Kerney was an active businessman in Alamance County as a General Contractor for over 50 years. He was the owner and operator of Kerney E. Overman Builders, Inc. Kerney was a long time member of St. Mark's Church. He was a Charter member of the National Association of Home Builders, and received the Ray Whitesell Award in 1999. He was also the former President of the Exchange Club and received the Excellence Award in 1972. He was sergeant in the US Army 169th AAA of the 43rd Infantry Division during the Korean War . Survivors include his children, Karen O. Ronald Garrison of Burlington, Helen O. Triplett of Wilmington, Kay O. Doug Barnhardt of Burlington and Kerney Edgar "Tray" Overman, III Lisa of Gibsonville; 6 grandchildren, Michael Garrison, Rodney Garrison, Kari Tillotson Boswell, Brantley Barnhardt, Weston Barnhardt and Brittney Greeson; 4 great grandchildren, Ayden Boswell, Tanner Tillotson, Ian Garrison and Camden Greeson; sister, Virginia "Winkie" Murray of Burlington. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Terrell Overman; parents, Kerney Edgar Overman, Sr. and Maggie Shoffner Overman; siblings, Martha O. Sharpe, Vastene Overman, Rosa Whitt and Nellie B. Duckum. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at 3:00 pm at St. Mark's Church by Rev. Don Pegg and the burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church from 2:00-2:45 pm prior to the service in the old sanctuary of St. Mark's Church and other times at the home.
