Gibsonville - Kent Delancy Thomas, 87, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 4, 2022 at Ashton Health and Rehab after several months of failing health. A native of Guilford County, he was born August 26, 1934 to the late Harper Jennings and Cordie Shepherd Thomas and was the husband of 57 years to Rose Leatrice “Lea” Hardee Thomas of the home.
Kent attended People’s Memorial Christian Church for over 30 years. He was a US AirForce Veteran and retired from the US Postal Service in 1991 after many years of service. He was also the original co-founder and namesake of Delancy’s Restaurant in Burlington. He enjoyed cooking, eating, and loved ice cream. Some of his biggest contributions were baking wedding cakes for over 40 years. He loved his family and was especially proud of his grandchildren. His most cherished relationship was with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Kent was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife, Lea of the home; sons, David Scott Thomas and wife, Abbie, Michael Kent Thomas and wife, Heather; Alan Keith Thomas and wife, Della; grandchildren, Hayden Rebecca Thomas and husband Eli Hayes, Henry James Thomas, Jack Harper Thomas; sister, Syble Yancey and husband, Winfred; brother, Coye L. Thomas and wife, Carole; sisters-in-law, Beatrice H. Thomas, Mary H. Walton and husband Wesley, Beverly Thompson Thomas and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Winfred J. Thomas and James L. Thomas; sisters, Guinevere Thomas Isley, Carleen Thomas; sister-in-law, Eveline Meador Thomas; brothers-in-law, George W. Hardee, Rufus W. Hardee, Jr. and Everett Joel “Jack” Isley.
A service to celebrate Kent’s life will be held 2:00pm on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. John Shields with the burial to follow at Gibsonville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:45 prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to AuthoraCare Collective (Hospice) of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215.
