Kenneth Carter, Sr.

Kenneth Lee Carter, Sr., age 86, formerly of Little River, SC, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 5th at his daughter's home in Yanceyville, NC. He was born in High Point, NC, on November 14th, 1927, the son of the late Thomas R. Carter and Ethel Kesler Carter Smith. Kenneth is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Thomas Carter, a son, Kenneth Lee Carter, Jr. and wife, Danette, of Raleigh, NC; a daughter, Louise Carter Rogers of Yanceyville, NC; grandsons, Thomas and Daniel Rogers of Yanceyville, Mark Minshew and wife, Kristen, of Raleigh; granddaughters Erin Rogers Ghim and husband, Mike, of Elon, NC, and Dana Whitley and husband, David, of Charlotte, NC; and seven great grandchildren, Trey, Landon, Worth, Caden, Noah, Paxton, and Cora. He was pre-deceased by his parents; stepfather, James F. Smith; and son-in-law, Gary G. Rogers. A veteran of WWII, Ken spent the first 30 years of his working career as a salesman for Brad Ragan Inc. Goodyear and then 10 years as a Rowan County magistrate. Ken was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Salisbury, NC, where he ushered for many years. After moving to Little River, SC, he was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he also served as an usher and the Chair of the Trustees. Ken loved spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid golfer and leaves behind his many golfing buddies. A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church of Salisbury on Saturday, March 8th, at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends and family in the Elizabeth Stanback Room following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Music Fund of First United Methodist Church, 217 S. Church St., Salisbury, NC 28144; the Music Fund of Trinity United Methodist Church, 706 14th Avenue South, North Myrtle Beach, SC 29582; or Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
