Burlington, NC Kenneth Kenny Ralph Blackwell, age 52, of 1017 N. Park Avenue went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 31, 2007 at UNC Hospital. Kenny was a native of Columbus County and the husband of Laurie Moore Blackwell who survives. Kenny was a veteran of the US Marine Corp and a member of Wicker Street Baptist Church. He was a proud member of the Junior ROTC program at Williams High School during his high school years. He was an avid fisherman and he loved working in his garden. Kenny never met a stranger and he enjoyed encouraging other veterans every Friday at the VA Medical Center in Durham. Kenny had a special God given gift when it came to children for many of whom he was their adopted dad. Survivors include his wife, Laurie Moore Blackwell of the home; son, Kenneth Kenny Ralph Blackwell, II of Burlington and other boys, Jason, Ryan and Landon Lunsford; mother, Kina Watkins Blackwell of Burlington; sisters and brothers-in-law, Gale McCall and her husband, Pete of Burlington, Pat Adkins and her husband, James of Gibsonville, Kathy Goodwin and her husband, Ron of Gibsonville; numerous nieces and nephews; numerous great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph J. Blackwell. The family would like to express their gratitude for the kindness and professional care that Dr. Joshua A. Spencer of the MICU Department of UNC Hospital gave to Kenny during his recent illness. The funeral service will be held on Monday, June 4, 2007 at 11:00 a. m. at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Tommy Love and Kennys brother-in-law, Ron Goodwin, and the burial will follow at Gibsonville City Cemetery with military honors provided by the US Marine Corp. The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 p.m. on Sunday at Lowe Funeral Home and other times the family will be at the residence.
