Keith L. Carroll, 94, of Burlington, passed away Tuesday, April 15th after a short period of declining health.
A native of Ransom, KS, Keith was raised in St. Joseph, MO under the loving care of Velma Audie “Ma” and Earl Everette Coulson. He graduated from Central High School and served as class treasurer. He met the love of his life, “Mary Dee” Williams, at a soda shop while working as a Radio Broadcast Technician at KFEQ.
In 1950, Keith enlisted in the US Air Force specializing in radar technology. Keith and Mary married in May 1953 while he was stationed in Biloxi, MS. After serving in the Air Force, he attended and graduated from Kansas University with a Bachelor of Science Electrical Engineering degree.
He joined Western Electric in 1957 and moved the family to Winston Salem, NC and eventually Burlington, NC. He was a senior project manager working on telecommunications for the coal mining industry, the Nike missile project and other NASA initiatives. He was employed by Western Electric/AT&T/Lucent technologies for 32 years.
Keith was a man of few words. He showed care and compassion through acts of service. In the sixties he was heavily involved in community work through the Burlington Jaycees. Many of his acts were unspoken and without fanfare. Whatever you needed, a tool, a manual, or someone to lend a hand- Keith was there, quietly making things better. His generosity spoke loudest in the little things he did without ever needing recognition.
Keith is survived by his wife, Mary D. Williams Carroll, one son, Keith W. Carroll (Donna), two daughters, Alison E. Carroll (Dewey Smith), and Angela L. Carroll Hunnicutt (Don), 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his foster sister, Sharon Kay Kunkel.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Naomi Stewart Carroll, two brothers, Norman Lee Carroll and Robert Carroll and 1 grandchild, Brian C. Carroll.
A service to celebrate Keith's life will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, April 19, 2025 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Mike Quintas. The family will receive friends from 12:45-1:45 prior to the service. A private burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to Greater Burlington Hospice Home a branch of AuthoraCare Collective (authoracare.org) or the charity of your choice.
