Kay Heaton McCarthy

Kay Heaton McCarthy, aged 83, passed away peacefully on Tuesday June 25, 2024, in Burlington, North Carolina. Born on September 6, 1940, in Hendersonville, North Carolina, she was a cherished member of her community and a loving figure within her family.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas McCarthy, and her parents, George B. Heaton and Anna Lou O. Heaton.

Kay is survived by her son, Jimmy Sexton of Burlington, NC; daughters, Cristie Sexton (Fabiola) of Fort Collins, CO, and Julie Smithey (Robert) of Burlington, NC; stepchildren, Cynthia Stoughton (Ron) of Wisconsin and Daniel Thomas McCarthy (Jim) of Hillsborough, NC. She also leaves behind her adored grandchildren, Jack Smithey of Goodlettsville, TN, and Danielle Smith (Javen) of Janesville, WI, along with her great-grandson, Josiah Smith and great granddaughter (on the way) Jasmine Elizabeth Smith of Janesville, WI.

The family invites friends and relatives to a gathering at the family home located at 1720 Memory Lane, Burlington, NC 27217, on Thursday, June 27, 2024 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM to share memories and celebrate Kay’s life. A private burial will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Kay’s memory to AuthoraCare, Hospice of Burlington, or PACE, Piedmont Healthcare of Burlington. These contributions will honor her enduring spirit and kindness.
