Mrs. Katie Elizabeth Rogers Swaim, age 89, of 5923 S. NC Hwy 49, died Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at the Hospice Home after several months of failing health. Born in Wake County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Connie Rogers and the late Melissa Gurganious Rogers and was married to the late James Haywood "Jim" Swaim, who died in 2005. Katie was retired from Burlington Industries and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Alamance for over 50 years. Mrs. Swaim is survived by a daughter, Deborah S. McDuffie and her husband, Don, of Raleigh; a son, Frankie Swaim and his wife, Linda, of Burlington; seven grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and a brother, Jack Rogers of Durham. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; three sisters, Billie Mayhew, Dot Bishop and Katherine Boyer; and two brothers, Buddy Rogers and Henry Rogers. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday, February 10, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of Alamance by Rev. Joe Hicks and Rev. Daniel Gregory. Interment will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Thursday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at her residence.
