Mrs. Karen Lynn Lambert Hughes, age 73, of Burlington, passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at her residence after several months of failing health.
A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of the late Carlie Alvis Lambert and the late Erma Loman Lambert and was married for over 52 years to the late Jon Robert Hughes, who passed away in 2021. She retired with over 32 years of service from Elon University and was a lifelong member of St. Mark’s Community Church, where she served as a Youth Counselor and was instrumental in starting the Dimes Ministry. She was a former Troop leader for the Girl Scouts, member of the Altrusa Club and an avid supporter of Xtreme Dance Academy of Mebane.
Mrs. Hughes is survived by her daughter, Kristi Hughes; grandchildren, Zachary Robert Smith and fiancé, Heather Leeann Cobb and Peyton Smith Truong and husband, Dinh, “adopted grandchildren”, Trevor Hendricks, Amy Younts, Kelsey Long, Grayson Bowes, Grant Bowes, Heidi Wagner, Kenedy Wagner, Shelby Walker and Kamryn Cochran; god children, Hunter Tipton and Nikki Baity; several nieces and nephews; and her fur babies, “Ginger”, “Ice” and “Finn”. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and a brother, Larry Wayne Lambert.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, September 19, 2022 at St. Mark’s Community Church by Rev. Bob Disher. The family will receive friends in the church atrium from 1:00 – 1:45 PM Monday prior to the service.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Mark Miller and his staff, AuthoraCare Collective and special friends, Gayl Edmondson, Vickie Byrd, Bob Maffeo, Elizabeth Byars, Jeanette Talley, Heather and Greg Bowes, Crystal and Eddie Walker and the Stadler family for their love and care of “Mimi” over the years.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the giver’s charity of choice.
