Burlington Judith "Judy" Adkins Crowder, age 74, of 2105 Stoney Creek Church Rd. passed away Saturday, October 13, 2012 at Hospice Home after a heroic battle with a terminal illness A native of Eden in Rockingham County, she was the daughter of the late William Melvin and Juanita Patterson Adkins. Judy and her family relocated to Bracey, Virginia in 1968. Judy served as Post Master in LaCrosse and Clarksville, VA until her retirement in 1999. Judy was a long standing, and respected member of the U.S. Postal Service, and served as an executive officer with the National Association of Post Masters. A faithful servant of the Christian faith, she lived a life that was continuously filled with laughter, travel and a devotion to family. Survivors include her husband, Harold Crowder, with whom she was married for over 56 years; sons, Kevin Crowder and wife Vicky of Burlington, Joel Crowder and wife Stacey of South Hill, VA; granddaughters, Lauren Sykes and Alyson Surles and husband Joey all of Burlington, Emily Crowder of South Hill, VA and two step-grandchildren and Judy was also "Nannie" to three great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 4:00pm Saturday, October 20, 2012 in the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Howard Thompson. The family will receive friends and family at Lowe Funeral Home following the memorial service. The family would like to especially thank Dr. Janak K. Choksi, the Alamance Regional Medical Center, Cancer Center, and the many staff, nurses and professionals at the Hospice Home.
